A Brisbane personal trainer has recreated a KFC Zinger burger using cheap grocery items from Aldi – describing her healthier version as “delicious”.
Bec Hardgrave has amassed a huge following on TikTok sharing lower calorie options of cult junk food favourites such as Macca’s, KFC and Starbucks.
When the fried chicken chain released a new “Zinger Crunch” range last week, Bec decided to set to work offering a healthier alternative to the burger.
The 25-year-old used only affordable items from German supermarket Aldi, including brioche buns, hot and spicy chicken tenders, fresh slaw and Doritos for the “crunch” element.
She cooked the tenders, found in the freezer section, and cooked them in the air fryer while lightly toasting the buns on a fry pan.
“I used light mayo and Sirracha to make my ‘Zinger’ sauce,” Bec told her almost 60,000 followers in her new video.
“I added my slaw and a slice of cheese and some Doritos for that extra crunch.
“Altogether it was 456 calories. You guys definitely have to try this one out, it’s delicious.”
To keep the calorie content down, Bec used just three chips, one slice of cheese and a small spoon of sauce.
She stacks all the ingredients onto two chicken pieces.
The KFC burger appears to be a little more generous in that department.
The “Zinger Crunch” is a permanent new addition to the Colonel’s menu in Australia, with its nutritional information currently not present on the KFC website.
However the original Zinger burger – which has one chicken piece – is stated as having 1816kj (434 calories).
